Antiviral boosters
What are Antiviral boosters?
Antiviral boosters are drugs that are used in conjunction with other specific antiviral drugs to enhance or increase their effect.
- oseltamivir phosphate (available as a generic version or under the trade name Tamiflu®),
- zanamivir (trade name Relenza®),
- peramivir (trade name Rapivab®), and.
- baloxavir marboxil (trade name Xofluza®).
Garlic (Allium sativum L.) possess a powerful antiviral agent whose every day consumption can be a great way to improve one’s immune system (Rouf et al., 2020). It is found to have high levels of organosulfur compounds like quercetin and allicin which are associated with inhibition of viral infection (Wu et al., 2016).
Antivirals are medications that help your body fight off certain viruses that can cause disease. Antiviral drugs are also preventive. This means they can protect you from getting viral infections or spreading a virus to others.
Most antivirals are oral drugs, but they can also be given as eye drops, inhalers, injections, IV infusion or topical ointments. They are very safe if you take them as prescribed, but like all medications, they are not without side effects.
