Miscellaneous vaginal agents
What are Miscellaneous vaginal agents?
Miscellaneous vaginal agents generally include products with female sex hormones (either a combination of estrogen and progestin or just estrogen). These agents work locally and may be absorbed systemically as well to replace low levels of hormones during menopause. These vaginal agents are used to treat menopausal symptoms such as vaginal dryness, itching and burning.
Estradiol vaginal gel, insert, and ring are used to treat changes in and around the vagina (such as vaginal dryness, itching, and burning) caused by low estrogen levels or menopause.
There are several treatment options for vaginal dryness. Some, such as vaginal moisturizers or lubricants, are available without a prescription. Others require a prescription; these include a vaginal estrogen cream, tablet, capsule, or ring; an oral medication called ospemifene; and a vaginal tablet called prasterone.
Vaginal rejuvenation consists of surgical and nonsurgical treatments that firm up the skin around your vagina or tighten the vaginal canal. It helps improve issues such as sexual dysfunction, urinary incontinence and vaginal dryness.
Estrone (E1) is the primary form of estrogen that your body makes after menopause. Estradiol (E2) is the primary form of estrogen in your body during your reproductive years. It’s the most potent form of estrogen. Estriol (E3) is the primary form of estrogen during pregnancy.
