What are Vaginal anti-infectives?
Vaginal anti-infectives are available as creams, pessaries (tablets), gels or solutions to treat either bacterial or fungal vaginal infections. Vaginal antifungal products are used to treat vaginal thrush. Antibacterial vaginal products are used for bacterial infections such as bacterial vaginosis. Other products are used to manage irritation or minor soreness.
Clindamycin Vaginal Cream. Clindamycin cream treats bacterial infections in your vagina. You can apply this antibiotic cream using the applicator that comes with this medication. Make sure you wash your hands before and after using this medication.
How can I stop the burning down there? Applying an ice pack or cold compress to the affected area can help reduce the burning sensation. Applying petroleum jelly to the skin can also help protect it. However, depending on the cause, a person may also require medical treatments.
After a confirmed BV diagnosis, your healthcare provider will prescribe antibiotics to treat the infection. Using an over-the-counter (OTC) triple antibiotic ointment or some home treatments in your vagina isn’t a good idea, or an approved method to effectively treat BV.
Go-to antibiotics for vaginal infections include metronidazole and clindamycin. If one treatment doesn’t do the trick, there are other options you can try. (Note: Stay away from alcohol while taking metronidazole, as the combination of the two can cause severe nausea and vomiting.)
