What are Otic steroids?
Otic steroids are products that contain corticosteroids and can be placed in the ears. Generally ophthalmic (eye) preparations containing corticosteroids are used in the ears. Corticosteroids are effective anti-inflammatory agents and are used to treat pain and inflammation, and eczema or dermatitis.
Dexamethasone is a steroid medicine that is used to relieve the redness, itching, and swelling caused by ear infections. This medicine is available only with your doctor’s prescription. This product is available in the following dosage forms: Suspension.

Local glucocorticosteroid (“steroid”) therapy is widely used to treat the inner ears of patients with Meniere’s disease, idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss and in combination with cochlear implants. Applied steroids have included dexamethasone, methylprednisolone and triamcinolone.
Otic corticosteroids (cortisone-like medicines) are used in the ear to relieve the redness, itching, and swelling caused by certain ear problems. Otic corticosteroids are available only with your doctor’s prescription.
